In my article, "Beyond the Angelina Jolie Effect: Why More People Need to Know About Lynch Syndrome," I discuss the importance of raising awareness for Lynch Syndrome, a hereditary condition that increases the risk of several cancers, including colorectal and endometrial cancers. While Angelina Jolie's openness about her BRCA mutation brought significant attention to genetic cancer risks, conditions like Lynch Syndrome remain less known despite their prevalence. I share my personal journey of discovering my own Lynch Syndrome diagnosis, emphasizing the critical role of genetic testing and family medical history in early detection and prevention. The article underscores the need for broader public education on hereditary cancer syndromes to empower individuals to take proactive steps in managing their health.

Thank you, Sara, for being our gale force in Tennessee. As the only Patient Advocate Leader in the state, she has accomplished the work of many in just one year of volunteering with FORCE. She demonstrated remarkable bravery when testifying in person at the Tennessee State House regarding a bill that would require medical insurers to cover prostate screening for those at high risk, with no cost to the patient. The room was filled with lawmakers, community members, and representatives from insurance providers, yet Sara was fearless and articulate, sharing her experience and concerns with pride and confidence.

In addition, she raises awareness and helps others navigate the anxiety of regular screenings and the fear of a cancer diagnosis on her The Positive Gene Podcast and blog.
Thank you for being a deeply committed volunteer! We are fortunate to have such a talented and dedicated spokesperson representing FORCE.
